STATESVILLE, NC; May 10, 2012-  Statesville Police are investigating the attempted robbery of Hotspots Sweepstakes, 1470 West Front Street.  At @ 12:55 am, an employee reported that two (2) B/M suspects attempted to gain entry into the business after closing via the back door.  The employee looked out the peep hole of the door and observed the suspects, both wearing ski masks and hooded sweatshirts and black pants, attempting to gain entry. 
 
The suspects did not gain entry and were last seen fleeing the scene on foot towards Miller Avenue.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Statesville Police at 704.878.3406.

STATESVILLE, NC; May 10, 2012- Statesville Police Officers responded to the Kangaroo convenience store, 1803 Safriet Road, in regards to a shooting.  Upon arrival, it was determined that at @ 1:20 am, two (2) suspects entered the store.  The first was a taller, slim, W/M wearing a "Spiderman" style ski mask and carrying a firearm.  The 2nd suspect was smaller in height, wearing all black.  
 
Upon entering the store, suspect #1 immediately turned towards the clerk, who was stocking shelves, and fired a shot.  The clerk was struck in the leg and later treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  The suspects immediately left the store after the shooting, alst seen on foot headed south in the parking lot.

STATESVILLE, NC; May 8, 2012- Statesville Police Officers responded to an armed robbery at Arby's, 3209 Taylorsville Road.  According to the manager, at @ 6:45 am an armed female suspect, wearing a mask and glasses, entered the business via the back door.  The suspect ordered the manager to open the safe and stole money from the safe and registers.  The suspect ordered the manager to stay in the bathroom before leaving the business.  The suspect stole the manager's keys and vehicle upon leaving the scene.   The vehicle was later recovered on Shuford Road.
 
Four (4) suspects have been identified for their role in this incident after further investigation:  Courtney Byers, B/F, 22, of Statesville, was identified as the primary suspect.  On May 10, 2012, she was located in Fort Mill, SC, and found to be deceased in her vehicle the result of an apparent suicide.  Erica Martin, B/F, 24, and Cynthia Cannon, W/F, 28, both of Statesville have been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery.  Warrants are still outstanding for Travis Wade, W/M, 23, of Statesville for Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery.

STATESVILLE, NC; April 30, 2012- Statesville Police are currently investigating two break-ins that occurred at Statesville Middle School, 321 Clegg Street.  The first incident occurred on April 20th.  An unidentified suspect broke out a classroom window, gained entry, and spray painted graffiti on a wall.  Nothing was reported missing.
 
On April 29th, a tall white male and another shorter male suspect, race unknown, broke out a window and gained entry into a classroom and committed a significant amount of vandalism.  Over $1,000 worth of property was damaged and graffiti was again applied to the walls.  
 
Update:  On May 2nd, two (2) juveniles were charged with breaking and entering and vandalism associated with the April 29th incident.  Both juveniles are students at SMS.
